What exactly is the project about?
The droughts becoming more extreme damage the forest in Brandenburg Very much. 16% of forests are severely damaged, 59% partly. At the same time, the risk of forest fires is very high with dry wood, particularly with pine monocultures, which account for 70% of the stocks.
In 2023 alone, 763 hectares of forest burned down in Brandenburg!
EcoTree is developing forest projects in Brandenburg to convert parts of these “plantations” into climate-resilient mixed forests.
From autumn 2024, new plantings will be carried out on a total of several hectares of forest. In order to avoid further pine monocultures, maple, beech and hornbeam as well as birch, oak and Douglas firs are increasingly being planted in the soil.
